Coaching Skills for Managers course cover

Helping people grow is part of almost every job. Few of us were shown how.

01

You became the answer desk

Every question comes to you, so you answer it. It feels helpful, it keeps the work moving, and it quietly teaches the team to keep coming back instead of thinking it through.

02

Good intentions, wrong kind of question

Many questions are advice in disguise. People hear what you want, agree, and the thinking, and the ownership, stays with you.

03

Development plans fade

Goals get written in a burst of energy, filed and forgotten. Without short, regular check-ins, growth stalls and nobody notices until review time.

Learning outcomes

What you will be able to do

Eight practical outcomes, each practiced in an exercise and checked in the final assessment or the capstone.

  1. Explain what coaching is and is not, and choose on purpose between telling, teaching and coaching.
  2. Build the trust, growth mindset and clear agreement that coaching needs.
  3. Spot coaching moments in a busy week with the Coaching Moment Check.
  4. Listen so people think more clearly, and ask open, powerful questions instead of advice in disguise.
  5. Run a structured coaching conversation with the GROW model, from goal to committed next steps.
  6. Give feedback inside coaching with Ask, Add, Ask, and receive feedback on your own coaching.
  7. Co-create development plans that stick and follow up with short Progress Check-Ins.
  8. Coach through performance issues, coach without a manager title and build a coaching habit that lasts.

The Camderson method

Plain tools that turn coaching into an everyday skill

The Help Dial and the Coaching Moment Check

Tell · Teach · Coach · Urgent or risky? · Knows the basics?

Decide in seconds whether a question calls for an answer, a lesson or a coaching conversation, and make room for coaching moments in a busy week.

The Reflect and Check Loop, the Question Swap and GROW

Listen fully · Reflect · Check · Open questions · Goal · Reality · Options · Will

Listen so people hear their own thinking, swap hidden advice for open questions, and use GROW to go from a goal to dated next steps.

Ask, Add, Ask, the Growth Plan on a Page and the Progress Check-In

Their view first · Situation, behavior, impact · Goal · Practice · Support · Proof · If-then first step · What moved?

Give feedback people can use, build development plans in their own words and keep progress visible with short, regular check-ins.

The Performance Gap Finder, the Peer Coaching Pact and the Coaching Rhythm Tracker

Expectations · Tools · Skill · Motivation · Outside pressures · Invite · Agree · Ask · Return · Review · Planned · Held

Find the real cause of a performance gap, coach colleagues without a title, and keep coaching going week after week.

Ask first. Listen well. Let them own the next step.

Is this course right for you?

This course is for you if

  • You help other people grow at work, in any role: manager or supervisor, team, shift or project lead, senior specialist, peer mentor or mentor, in any department
  • You find yourself answering every question and want your team to think things through and own their work
  • You want simple, practical tools for coaching conversations, feedback, development plans and follow-up that fit into a busy week

It is not the right fit if

  • You want a professional coaching credential (this course earns a Certificate of Completion, not a coaching credential)
  • You need to run a formal disciplinary or performance improvement process (involve HR; Leadership Communication & Difficult Conversations covers those conversations)
  • You are looking for counseling or therapy skills (coaching is not counseling; the course shows when to point someone to an Employee Assistance Program or another qualified professional)

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be a manager to take this course?

No. The title says managers, and the course is written for everyone who helps colleagues grow: team, shift and project leads, supervisors, senior specialists, peer mentors and mentors in any department. Lesson 4.2 covers coaching without a manager title.

Do I need any experience or a previous course?

No. There is no prerequisite. If you help other people at work, even informally, you are ready. First-Time Manager Essentials and Giving and Receiving Feedback pair well with this course but are not required.

How long do I have access?

Your access does not expire. We review the course every year, and any updates are added for you at no extra cost.

How long does it take?

About 5 hours in total, including the written lessons and their videos, the Try it exercises, the knowledge checks, the final assessment and the capstone. Everything is self-paced.

Do I have to use my own team for the capstone?

No. You can build your coaching plan for the fictional Stonecrop Animal Hospital included in the course. If you use your own team, you use roles instead of names and leave out anything personal or confidential.

Is the research in the course real?

Yes. Every fact comes from a named source, such as the International Coaching Federation, SHRM, Gallup and peer-reviewed studies, and the lessons say what each study did and did not show. Nothing is invented, and the course is honest that most coaching research studied professional coaches.

Is the certificate accredited, or is it a coaching credential?

Neither. You receive a Camderson Academy Certificate of Completion after passing the final assessment and the capstone, a coaching plan that a person reviews. It is not an academic credential or a coaching credential, is not accredited and does not carry continuing education or other professional credit.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes. You are covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee. If the course is not right for you, email connect@camderson.com within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you in full. No questions asked. Your course access ends when the refund is issued.

What tools do I need?

A spreadsheet program that opens .xlsx files (Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Apple Numbers or LibreOffice Calc), a word processor that opens .docx files and a PDF reader. All templates and practice files are included as downloads.
