Delegation and Accountability course cover

Doing it all yourself feels faster. It rarely is.

01

Work piles up with you

Approvals, fixes and favors land on the same desk. The work only you can do waits while you do work someone else could do well.

02

Handoffs that come back

A quick ask in the hallway leaves the other person guessing what done looks like, and the work returns late, different or back on your plate.

03

Follow-up that feels unfair

Without a shared way to check in, follow-up swings between silence and hovering, and people are held to different standards for the same miss.

Learning outcomes

What you will be able to do

Six practical outcomes, each practiced in an exercise and checked in the final assessment or the capstone.

  1. Explain why people hold on to work, what handing it off well makes possible, and name your own Hold-On Reasons.
  2. Choose what to hand off, what to keep, what to use to grow someone and what to drop, with the Handoff Sort.
  3. Agree a clear handoff with anyone, including peers and vendors: purpose, what done looks like, decision room, check-in dates and support, confirmed with a Playback Check.
  4. Plan follow-up that fits the stakes with the Check-In Dial and track commitments in a Handoff Log without micromanaging.
  5. Spot drift early, diagnose it with the Drift Check, reset the work and keep the next move with the person who owns it.
  6. Hold fair, consistent accountability, close each handoff with a Finish Line Review and build handing off into a weekly habit.

The Camderson method

Teaching tools for handing off work you can use tomorrow

The Handoff Sort

Keep · Drop · Grow · Hand off · Skill · Interest · Capacity · Fairness

Ask four questions in order for every task on your plate, choose the right person for each handoff and count the follow-up time honestly.

The Playback Check

Purpose · What done looks like · Decision room · Check-ins · Support · Play it back

Agree five things for every handoff, then ask the other person to explain it back in their own words, so you both leave with the same picture.

The Check-In Dial and the Handoff Log

Light · Standard · Close · Stakes · Familiarity · One row per handoff · The doer sets the status

Set follow-up to fit the stakes and the person's familiarity with the work, check early, build in a buffer and track commitments, not people.

The Fair Follow-Through Check and the Finish Line Review

Same standard · Facts first · Their side · Correctable · Respectful · Acknowledge · Review · Record · Raise

Hold everyone to the same fair standard when work slips, renegotiate early, and close every handoff by recognizing the work and learning from it.

Hand it off. Follow up. Close the loop.

Curriculum

Inside the course

Three modules, 9 lessons with worked examples and video

01

Decide What to Hand Off

Why we hold on to work and what handing it off makes possible, the Handoff Sort for choosing what to keep, hand off, use to grow someone or drop, and the handoff conversation that agrees on done and plays it back.

02

Follow Up Without Taking Over

The Check-In Dial for follow-up that fits the stakes, the Handoff Log for tracking commitments rather than people, and the Drift Check and Next-Move Rule for when work starts to slip.

03

Fair, Consistent Accountability

The Fair Follow-Through Check for accountability that feels fair, the Finish Line Review for closing the loop and learning from every handoff, and a Handoff Habit Plan that makes it part of your week.

Is this course right for you?

This course is for you if

  • You hand off work to anyone, in any role or department: managers and supervisors, project leads, coordinators, specialists, individual contributors and owners
  • You carry too much yourself, or you hand work off and then find it coming back late, half done or back on your desk
  • You want simple tools to agree what done looks like, follow up without hovering and hold people to a fair standard, whether they report to you, sit beside you or work for a vendor

It is not the right fit if

  • You are a brand-new manager looking for a full grounding in the role (CA-LM-001 First-Time Manager Essentials covers that and introduces delegation briefly)
  • You want to build accountability across a whole team with a team charter and shared commitments (CA-LM-003 Building High-Performing Teams covers that)
  • You need help with a formal performance, conduct or discipline process (involve your HR team; this course points you there when a missed commitment becomes one)

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any experience or a previous course?

No. This is a beginner course with no previous course needed. It works whether you lead a team or have no direct reports at all, because most handoffs happen between peers, across teams and with outside partners.

Who is this course for?

Everyone who hands off work, in every role and every department. The examples come from a resort with events, sales, front office, engineering, finance and HR teams, and the tools fit offices, shops, clinics, nonprofits, public services and companies of any size.

How long do I have access?

Your access does not expire. We review this course regularly, and any updates are added for you at no extra cost.

How long does it take?

About 4 hours in total, including the written lessons and their videos, the Try it exercises, the knowledge checks, the final assessment and the capstone. Everything is self-paced, and most exercises use your own work.

Do I have to use my own work for the capstone?

No. You can build your Delegation and Follow-Up Plan for the fictional Briarcliff Regional Food Bank using the brief included. If you use your own work, use roles instead of names and leave out personal, performance and confidential details.

Is this legal or HR advice?

No. This course is general education about handing off work and following up. It is not legal or HR advice. Employment laws and company policies vary by location and employer. When a missed commitment turns into a question of performance, conduct, discipline, health, leave, accommodations, pay or safety, or a possible legal issue, involve your HR team and, if there is no HR team, a qualified HR advisor or employment attorney.

Is the certificate accredited, or does it carry professional credit?

Neither. You receive a Camderson Academy Certificate of Completion after passing the final assessment and the capstone, a delegation and follow-up plan that a person reviews. It is not an academic credential and does not carry continuing education or other professional credit.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes. You are covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee. If the course is not right for you, email connect@camderson.com within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you in full. No questions asked. Your course access ends when the refund is issued.
